Mich Bosquit: More Than Just a Miss Derm Beauty Artist

In the beauty industry, some master one craft and excel at it. And then there are the jacks of all trades, artists who effortlessly juggle diverse skills. Mich Bosquit, one of Miss Derm Makati’s semi-permanent make-up (SPMU) artists, is one of these jacks. She’s a lash tech, a brow artist, and a HIFU and Diode Laser master in one.

Mich has become a multi-talented beauty artist with an outstanding thirst for knowledge. Her story proves that skill is important, but your dedication takes you to places.

A versatile artist

Mich’s first love is lashes. Eight years ago, she began her career in the beauty industry as a lash technician, mastering the delicate art of lash extensions.

“I started when I was only 18. ‘Yung ate ko kasi, dito na rin sya nagwo-work sa industry. Sumama lang ako sa kanya kasi mahilig din ako magmake-up,” she narrates.

The 18-year-old Mich thought that it would be best to start working early so she could gather more experience in the industry. “Lashes ‘yung una kong natutunan,” she says. “Ay first, nakakakaba. Kasi mata ‘yun. At saka syempre, pag first time, hindi pa perfect ‘yung gawa mo.” Aside from lash extensions, she also learned lash lift and brow threading. Eventually, she became a lash tech in her first job.

Trainings like this became easier for her as she got more experience. When she joined Miss Derm in 2022, she had the opportunity to learn semi-permanent make-up. “Gusto ko talagang matutunan [mag-SPMU], but training is so expensive. Kaya, when training was offered to me by Ma’am Marzen, I said yes right away,” Mich says.

“Before, kapag nagt-thread ako, parang nakukulangan ako. Sa isip ko, sana may make-up ‘to para mas maganda,” she shares. Because of this, it came as no surprise that Mich found the SPMU training exciting—and in some way, easier compared to her lash training when she was just 18. After 7 years of working in this industry, she’s become a little bit more confident about her skills and is even more open to learning new things.

“The difference lang with lashes, kailangan magaan lang talaga. But with brows, dapat may konting pressure,” she says when asked to describe how different her brows and lashes trainings had been. “Pero kung gugustuhin mo rin talagang matuto, you can.”

At Miss Derm, she performs procedures such as Lash Lift, Lash Extensions, Microblading, Microshading, Ombre Shading, Cheek Blush, Waxing, HIFU, and Diode Laser. She’s the only artist who can do almost all Miss Derm’s services, proving her remarkable versatility.

The heart of her art

Lash Procedure by Mich of Miss Derm

What sets Mich apart is not her impressive range of skills, but her genuine connection with her clients. She understands that it's not just about the procedure; it's about the person. She takes the time to get to know her clients, their preferences, and why they get the procedures they get.

“May mga nagawan akong matatanda na… napapagod na raw silang magkilay,” she shares when asked to describe her usual clients. “Most of them, maninipis na ‘yung kilay. ‘Yung iba naman, malalabo na ang mata. Hindi na raw nila kayang pantayin kaya pupunta nalang sila dito,” she says.

She also has worked with a lot of moms, who usually get multiple services or a package deal. “Kapag mommy kasi, busy na and wala na raw time mag-ayos ng sarili or magpaganda. Kaya bumabalik once a month, naging maintenance na,” she says. “Nu’ng first kinilay ko, tapos lashes, then nagsunod sunod na and nag-avail na rin ng diode.” This makes the client’s experience more convenient because Mich can do all these procedures.

“’Yung mga kabataan naman, nagpapaganda sila for self-love,” she says with a light chuckle. Her heart smiles every time a procedure ends with her younger clients telling her that, “Ate, woke up like this na ako! Maliligo nalang then diretso na alis.”

Mich has welcomed clients who are men and women, spanning nearly a century in age—with her oldest clocking in at 93 and her youngest at 16 years old.

“Meron talagang mga pabalik-balik, lalo na sa lashes. Sa brows kasi, usually a year bago bumalik kasi matagal talaga ‘yung effect ng semi-permanent make-up,” she says.

What’s fascinating about Mich is that she really takes time to connect with her clients on a deeper level and gets to know the different stories that brought them to Miss Derm. “They have different stories,” she shares. “’Yung iba, kasi hindi makahanap ng technician that fits with them. ‘Yung iba, sa mahal nagpagawa but not happy with their services. Sinasabi nila na sa amin, afforadble but quality ‘yung gawa. That's why they come back,” she says, with pride.

While others may focus on quick fixes and superficial connections, Mich is committed to building relationships of trust and excellence with all her clients.

More than just a Miss Derm beauty artist

As Mich continues to excel in her career, one thing she promises herself is to continue the way she connects with her clients.

“[For me kasi] ‘yun talaga yung importante. If approachable ka sa clients at kumportable sila sa’yo, They will always look for you,” she says.

Mich believes that every client is a canvas, and she treats each one with the utmost care and respect. She listens to their stories, acknowledges their insecurities, and empowers them with confidence. In fact, when her clients open up to her, for example, about a heartbreak, her usual response is: “Okay lang ‘yan! Ang importante, maganda ka.” She also tries to remind clients that even though getting beauty procedures is not often seen as necessary, it’s a way to take care of yourself.

To her, beauty is more than skin deep—it’s about building relationships, understanding individual needs, and nurturing her clients' self-esteem.

That’s why, more than being a beauty artist, Mich sees herself as a life enhancer and, ultimately, a confidence builder- not just a Miss Derm beauty artist.
